Celia McDonough

"If metal and bricks are a part of it, why not make the best of it?"

The greater Boston area and its neighborhoods have long been the impetus behind artist Celia McDonough’s work—most notably her Celebrate Dorchester calendar, now in its 17th season. Originally conceived as a fundraiser for Project DEEP, Celebrate Dorchester was a collaborative effort between watercolorist Celia McDonough and her son Brendan, founder of Project DEEP.

Celia believes that it is important to paint one’s own landscape and interpret the treasures, often overlooked, residing in our own backyards, surrounding neighborhoods, and shores.

Celia McDonough, a Dorchester resident and graduate of Boston College, also attended Massachusetts College of Art. Among her many credits are solo exhibits at Thayer Academy, Boston City Hall, Boston College, and Chadwick’s corporate headquarters. Her murals have also been featured on the set of The Dorchester Connection, a Boston cable television program, and are part of the website of The Dorchester Reporter. Celia received a watercolor award at the 2005 River Arts Festival. Many of her works, painted over the past 40 years, can be found in corporate collections and permanent installations in places like the Wells Fargo, Boston; the Mount Washington Bank, Boston; the Meetinghouse Bank, Boston; Children's Hospital, Boston; Milton Hospital, Milton, MA; The New England Carpenters Benefits Fund office, Wilmington, MA; The Carpenters Center, Boston; and the Carpenters International Training Center, Las Vegas.

In addition, several hundred of her paintings are included in private collections all over the United States. Besides painting watercolor landscapes, Celia has also received commissions to paint numerous house portraits and still life paintings—often drawing on her Boston roots for inspiration.
